David Angel

Construction and Landscape Labourer

My name is David Angel and I served as a Combat Engineer for 8 years in the Australian Regular Army. I learned about Agri Veterans on Facebook, saying they would take ex-defence personnel from Deployment to Employment. As a soldier, the idea of a new career focused on outside, hands on work appealed to me. The Agri Veterans team were very helpful and replied to my expression of interest immediately.

My new position is great. I’m working on a Poultry farm in the Darling Downs as a construction labourer fitting out new sheds for free range chickens. The average day runs in a very similar fashion to my previous position in defence. We receive direction from the site manager and then work in small teams of 3-5 with a supervisor. The atmosphere is relaxed, outcome driven and offers many opportunities for career progression. Read more

Agri Veterans is a great initiative that focuses on finding employment suited for ADF personnel seeking change, after their service. They understand their clients and the injuries that we bring, both physically and mentally.

Peter from Agri Veterans regularly calls me to make sure everything is good and to ensure that I have found the position best for me. From my initial expression, to my first day on the job, the process took less than a month and I was would recommend Agri Veterans to other ex-defence personnel seeking a change for the better.
